CHARACTERISTICS AND TRENDS IN EVOLUTION OF RHETORIC

Abstract

Being a manifestation of the cultural heritage of humanity, rhetoric has born the impact of the evolution of humanity, human thought, political environment and changes in value systems. The article deals with the specific trends and peculiarities of the evolution of human society in different historical periods and their impact on rhetoric. Differences in perception and evaluation of public speeches depending on whether they are read, listened to or watched are also brought to light in the article.

The article considers peculiarities that are typical to today’s public speaking, among which emotional appeal, flexibility, simplicity of presentation, inspiring, clear-cut and brief wording, usage and repetition of emotional slogans, storytelling, empathy, visual and multimedia elements can be singled out. In recent years there can be observed an ever-growing tendency to make use of the artificial intelligence for drafting speeches to make the presentation more impressive, persuasive and perfect. At the end of the article the importance of mastering public speaking is emphasized as exceptionally essential for the specialists of our country.
